B.How Solar Street Lights Work And Main Parts Functions?
To give you a better sense of how solar street lights work, here are the basic components:
Solar Panel: The solar panel has a photovoltaic cell inside, which converts solar energy into an electrical current. A solar panel's effectiveness depends on the size and quality of the solar cell and the transparency of the protective cover/glass.
There are 2 types of solar panel: mono-crystalline and poly-crystalline.
Solar Battery: Battery will store the electricity from solar panel during the day and provide energy to the fixture during night. The life cycle of the battery is very important to the lifetime of the light and the capacity of the battery will affect the backup days of the lights. There are usually 2 types of batteries: Gel Cell Deep Cycle Battery and Lead Acid Deep Cycle Battery
Solar Controller:A diode located between the cell and the battery ensures that electricity flows only one way: into the battery.
Lighting Fixture: LED: "Light-emitting diodes" are like miniature light bulbs that are installed in-line on an electrical circuit. These bulbs last a very long time and also do not generate waste heat. LED is usually used as lighting source of modern solar street light, as the LED will provide much higher Lumens with lower energy consumption. The energy consumption of LED fixture is at least 50% lower than HPS fixture which is widely used as lighting source in Traditional street lights. LEDs lack of warm up time also allows for use of motion detectors for additional efficiency gains.
Solar Controller: A controller will usually decide to switch on /off charging and lighting. Some special modern controllers are programmable so that user can decide the appropriate chance of charging, lighting and dimming, Half Power is available; protect the whole system
Pole: Strong Poles are necessary to all street lights, especially to solar street lights as there are components mounted on the top of the pole: Fixtures, Panels and sometime batteries. And wind resistance should also be taken into consideration when choosing the pole.
Buyers Guide Reading:
Buyers or Final Users should know below some points before buying & designing & installing solar LED street lights:
1) Where is the final installation area?
Country name? Province & State name? or even the city name? An accurate design must based on using place’s solar radiation. Different places will have different solar radiation hours (Peaksun time).Based on same LED Power with higher solar radiation will get lower product cost. Areas with lower solar radiation will get higher product cost. One word, we should know its peaksun time accord to using location, then we could design solar panel and battery better for the solar LED street lighting system.
2) Light time/Night?
An accurate design also should know lighting time per night. Longer hours will get higher cost, and of course, shorter time get lower cost. Some buyers just need 4 hours per day, some need 6 Hours, and sometimes 12 Hours if needing whole lighting. We usually recommend 11-12 Hrs/Night so that can light whole night.
3) Pole height?
Usually from 4M;5M;6M;7M;8M;9M;10M;12M. Higher pole will need higher power LED to lighting the road, so pole height is important for designing solar LED street lights. And buyers should choose pole height before sending Inquiry or Mail, Mobile call.
